It is proposed to embody into the American commonwealth as an integral part thereof a large and miscellaneous assortment of Asiatic islands. estimated in rnumber at from 1.200 to 2.000. and to make citizens of the United States. with all the rights of citizenship which attach to the inhabitants of an American Territory. a large and miscellaneous and diversified assortment of people. We are told by a number of Senators who have addressed us that of these islands and of this people we know but little. Our ignorance of them is a selfevident fact.
