What is the result if these islands are acquired and held as colonies? The logic of the situation will be to acquire more Asiatic territory. and after that to reach out for still more. There is no reason for the acquisition of the Philippines which Will not apply to the acquisition of other parts of Asia. each acquisition furnishing a reason why another part still beyond should be also acquired. The acquisition of the Philippines will commit this Government to the colonial or imperial policy.
