Now. I want to tell the gentleman that that which I came on the floor to deny he has not referred to. I desire that he will now allow me to say that the point wherein I tried to correct him a moment ago was this: He said I denied that the President said that immigration was necessary to the permanent prosperity of the country. Everybody who heard me knows that I said nothing of the kind. and no man knows it better than the gentleman from Kansas. who refuses to allow me to correct him. He knows that I was arguing that the President had said. inferentially at least. that prosperity had come. and that the restriction of immigration would be an adjunct beneficial to the retention or the creation of permanent prosperity.
