Mr. Speaker. I notice in the New York Journal of this morning a statement that arepresentative of that paper had submitted to each member of the House of Representatives this question- "Are you in favor of the pending bill?" alluding to the immigration bill pending in the other House. I notice that I am quoted as voting in the affirmative for the socalled Lodge bill. Now. I wish to state that a reporter of this paper called upon me last night at my house with this specific question as it appears in the paper today. and that I specifically answered "No." Ordinarily I do not pay any attentionto newspaper reports. but I do not wish the impression to go abroad that I am for the Lodge bill or any immigration bill of that sort. I am emphatically against it. and when the bill comes upfor consideration I shall vote against its passage and give my reasons therefor.
