Speech #540118116

If it is intended to force Uncle Sam into this same business. and to deprive him of the right to ever again express sympathy with the downtrodden of Europe. all that is necesary toaccomplish that object and to crystallize the prejudice of the few into the law of the land is to pass thisbill as it now reads.. The next feature of the bill to which I object. and which I am satisfied the Housewill not approve. is also contained in section 1. It is there provided that any admissible immigrant over 21 years of age may bring with him. or may send for his parents or grandparents. if over 50 years of age. and if the immigrant is able to support them. Not a word is said. however. about permitting the immigrant who is qualified to land under this bill to bring his wife. the mother of his children. with him if she is not so qualified. which means necessarily the separation of families. pure and simple. Against this inhuman provision I protest. Mr.
