I should like to ask the Senator from Alabama whether. from the considerations which influence him and which appeal to me in this case. if we are to admit Cubans without this qualification. we would not also be bound from motives of humanity to make an exception in favor of the Armenians. Now they are coming to our doors. They are not able to come in under existing law. Some of them are sent back. Can we open our doors through special statutes to all the oppressed peoples of the earth or make exceptions in their behalf to our general aws as to the admission of immigrants? I suggest to the Senator from Alabama whether we can do that wisely.
