SWISS. Idaho.-Scandinavians or Germans are preferable. Illinois.-Just at present the State of Illinois is not seeking to have further immigration. Iowa.-As to the immigration of any class of foreigners to this State at the present time. I should say that it is very undesirable. Kansas.-The preference of immigrants would be in about the following order: Germans. English. French. Swedes. and Norwegians. Kentucky.-In Kentucky there is less disposition just now to secure immigrants direct from foreign countries than from other States. So far as the governor of Kentucky is concerned. I happen to know better myself. I can say that there is a great desire in Kentucky to have a character of labor brought there that can be relied on. such as farm hands. not men who will work in the fall and sponge. on you all the winter and desert you when working time comes in hot weather. Farm hands are needed that can be relied on to work and not to loaf. I know what Kentucky desires as to immigration. the governor to the contrary notwithstanding. I will read the remainder of his statement: The nationalities preferred are British. Germans.
