Well. I understood the gentleman to say that the South did not desire immigration. I may have been mistaken in that. I do not wish to do him any injustice. I remember that a few years ago committees were sent all over the State of Kentucky for the purpose of raising funds to send to foreign countries to induce immigrants to come to Kentucky. and I was one of those who tried to promote the movement. Many other States did the same thing. and it will not be many years before the question will again be agitated and immigration solicited.
