That it shall be unlawful for any person. partnership. company. or corporation knowingly to employ sn any manner whatsoever in the United States any alien who resides or retains his home in a foreign country: Provided. That the provisions of this act shall not apply to the employment of sailors. deck hands. or other employees of vessels navigating the Great Lakes or the rivers tributary thereto. or railroadtrain hands. such as conductors. engineers. brakemen. firemen. or baggagemen. whose duties require them to pass over the frontier to reach the termini of their roads.� "Sac. 5. That it shall he unlawful for any alien to enter the United States. except subjects of the Dominion of Canadla and other American countries. except at the places where the United States maintain an immigrant inspection board. "Sac. 0. That any violation of the provisions of this act shall be deemed a misdemeanor. punishable by a fine not exceeding 9500 or by imprisonment for the term of not exceedsng one year. or both such fino and imprisonment. in the discretion of the court. That all persons convicted under this act shall be depoited to the country from whence they came."
