Mr. Speaker. without expressing any opinion at all as to whether or not the time proposed in the rule should be extended. it seems to me that the chairman of the Committee on Immigration is putting the Committee on Rules in a false position. For the last three or four weeks I have been approached by a number of gentlemen. both inside and outside of the House. with respect to getting "a day for immigration." but until the gentleman from Missouri rose a while ago I never heard an intimation that he or anybody wanted more than one day. When the chairman of that committee was with the Committee on Rules this morning he did not intimate that he wanted more than one day.
