Speaker. I will state that this is the usual resolution. For the last four or five Congresses it has been customary for the Committee on Immigration. when called upon to suggest new legislation. to make a trip to New York and visit Ellis Island and the immigration station there. This resolution is presented in accordance with that custom. Its object isto enable members to familiarize themselves with the workings of the present system. the operation of existing laws. and to ascertain. by personal observation. what changes. if any. of the present laws and methods of enforcing them are necessary for the protection of our- country against what is termed undesirable immigration..
