It is said that there are now nearly 20.000 Japanese in Hawaiithough. accordingto the statistics furnished by Mr. Blount. there were. when the census upon which he relied was taken. but a little over half that numberbut there are some 20.000 in the islands at this hour. There are likewise onhand almost as many Chinese. Mr. President. we have passed most drastic legislation against Mongolian immigration. We have endeavored to keep Chinamen away from the United States. we have affirmed that their presence is not onlyhostile to the best interests of this Government but may be positively destructive of it.
