Session #53 · 1893–95

Speech #530144503

I answer the Senator from Illinois by saying that there is now pending before the Comlaittee on Immigration an important measure of additional restriction. The chairman of thatecommittee is the senior Senator from New York . who has been very busy during the present session of Congress and has net given that attention which I hope he will be able to give between now and the fourth of next March to the legitimate work of the committee. Whenever that bill is taken up and considered. I have little doubt that a nonpartiSan measure canbe reported to the Senate which will adequately express the views of Senators and which will operate beneficially in the restriction of the immigration which we do not want to come into this country.
