Session #53 · 1893–95

Speech #530131608

Chairman. I think I would like to use the first few minutes of my allotted time to give my own overview of where we are right now. This legislation is being offered. perhaps most importantly. it is suggested. to prevent the continuing displacement of American workers with undocumented workers who crossed our border illegally. It is so ironic that we are now debating a series of provisions which expand tremendously the potential for bringing in imported workers to displace. undermine. undercut the jobs. the wages. and the working conditions of American workers in agriculture. My own personal view is that the legislation before us. as it is written. is very. very bad because of. those provisions.
