Session #53 · 1893–95

Speech #530131451

FISH. in this matter. as well as his colleague and helper on the subcommittee. Chairman LUNGREN of California. The reason I think it is wiser at this point to withdraw the amendment is that I think the point has been made. we need at some near term point to establish some limitation on these massive numbers. the massive numbers that are created potentially by the movement of 6 to 10 million undocumented aliens to the legalization process. and from that point to the naturalization process. and from that point to the citizenship window. which brings them into a position where. if no limits are proscribed. a potential for 70 million people to come to this country in the next 10 years. Now. that is an amount of people. a load on our sled here. that will kill the goose that lays the golden egg.
