Wilkins an Indian attempted to vote and alleged that he had separated himself from the tribe and was no longer a partof it. He claimed that he was a citizen of Nebraska. and attempted to vote in the city of Omaha. but the register refused to permit him to register. The Indian sued him. and the case came to the Supreme Court of the United States. and is reported in the 112th volume of reports. The court held that he could not be a citizen of the United States without having been naturalized. becaXise he had been born a member of an Indian tribe.
