Irrespective ol former party affiliations. we will vote and work against the election of any memberwho will favor a bill that will cause such distress to the laboring classes. The undersigned respactully represent that we firmly believe the tariff measure now under consideration by Congress. and known as the Wilson bill. if enacted into a law in its present form will surely work the destruction of the granite industries of Maine. We believe its effect will be to reduce our wages. now very low. to the level of the convict labor of the South md of the pauper labor of Europe and of the Canadas. We most earnestly and solemnly protest against the enactment of that section of the proposed measure which places undressed granite upon the free list. Its enactment will be solely for the beneiit and in the interest of foreign capital. foreign labor. and wealthy importers.
