Speech #530047372

Now. then. I have never.said. and I never will say. that I think the wages of the American citizen should be broken down. What I said was that I believed that it was the protective system which gave the power into the hands of men so to control industry as to compel foreign immigration to come in for the purpose of breaking labor down. and after breaking it down by bringing immigration in. and the instant they got to the point where they succeeded in breaking down the workers unions for rotecting wages of American labor. they broke down the wages. said that that was a system that I would remedy by law. if I could. with my vote. and if that is wrong. if that is impolitic. if it is unAmerican. I will stand by it.
