The number of Chinese to be deported is so numerous that if there is a commencement made it will result in an immense expenditure. and there is not sufficient money in the Treasury for the purpose. and has not been. to justify the inauguration of such a proceeding. If the Senator will expend the efforts which he has been expending today in trying to establish himself as the father of something that he does not appear to be very nearly related to. in procuring the enactment of an appropriation bill. then something can be done in this direction. Not only is it necessary to expand money for the mere passage of a Chinaman from this country to China. but there are expenditures amounting to over $5.000 a month in the way of officers and inspectors. etc.. including such enforcement of the law as I have spoken of. and including the carrying out of provisions other than the deportation clause.
