Session #52 · 1891–93

Speech #520136099

There was in my company a boy of about my own age. and also an Irishman. They soldiered with the American boys and did their duty at all times. They remained in the company until the end of the war. Now. as I understand the operation of this proposed legislation. if those men are living abroad and have not become naturalized citizens of the United States. this legislation should cut off their pensions. except for actual disabilities. If a pension has been granted to any man by reason of services rendered to the United States. I do not understand by what rule of fairness or equity you can cut it off because of his nationality.
