I have listened with great consideration to the Senators request. but I shall not change the direction in which I was first steering. because I expect to get back to the Senators bill in a few moments. The Senator from New Hampshire. chairman of the Committee on Immigration. with the committee. has undertaken to prepare a bill intended to protect the people of this country against the invasion of cholera or other infectious diseases. Pending that the Senator from Tennessee. chairman of the Committee on Epidemic Diseases. has reorganized a bill which I think was before the Senate at its last session. and he now comes before the Senate with his plan for preventing cholera and other infectious diseases from obtaining a lodgment on our shores.
