The surveyorgeneral for Montana make thi. very strong recommendation: The amount estimated for surveys inthe fteld isbaseduponpressingnecesaiy. Immigration is not only increasing and large areas. such as the country north of the Flatead Lake. are being settled bodily. but the present settlers. some of them of many years settlement.are urgently demanding relief to the extent of having their lands surveyed.. All settlers who are obliged to live upon unsurveyedu publicland and can therefore only hold it by actual possession suffer great hardships. but. it is a particular haxdsmp that the agricultural and grazing land embraced within the limits of the Northern Pacific Railroad Companys land grant is not surveyed. Within that great area. onehalf of which belongs tothe company. there axe many settlers who do not know. and can never know until a survey is made. whether they are upon the public domain or railroad land.
