Session #52 · 1891–93

Speech #520048960

They are among the most civilized people of the country. from whom we have derived. as I have shown. many of our most valuable discoveries and inventions. Mr. President. let us have something practical. There is no trouble in any State excluding every Chinaman. There is no trouble in having a treaty made that will enable them to do it. There is no reasonable danger of any overflow in this country by the Mongolians. But if there were a million of them here the people of this country are capable of holding them in subjection and of keeping them from containing any control or domination. We are capable of establishing systems of labor that will prevent them from competing injuriously with our country.
