In 1884 he was chosen a member of the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. being accredited to that branch by the great manufacturing city of the State. He soon gave evidence of decided ability. his service being so acceptable that he was rewarded in 1886 by an election to this House. During the term here he exhibited application and industry. accomplishing much for his constituency and district. Hesought by law to stay the tide of immigration of the unworthy to our shores. to elevate American citizenship. and debar dangerous AP m 9. elements coming here. to close the door to those not fitted for our institutions.
