The protectionists have tried to take away the credit from the Diety and to say that everything good in this country is due to the protective tariff. I know it is true that people come here from the Old World to work. and I know also that your protective tariff has brought a great many of them here. That tariff has brought much of the pauper labor of Europe to this country. and if .it was not for the tariff you would nothave so many immigrants of that class. You put a premium on pauper labor to the injury of the labor of our own people.
