The gentleman from Alabama approves of this bill as far as it goes. We have brought this bill to the House with the unanimous report of our committee in support of it. The bill which the gentleman reports from the Judiciary Committee has not back of it a unanimous report. The bill which we have reported is supported also by a unanimous report of the Committee on Immigration of the Senate. The first paragraph of the bill prohibits the entrance into this country ofAll idiots. insane persons. paupers. orpersons likely to become a public charge. persons suffering from a loathsome or a dangerous contagious disease. persons who have been convicted of a felony or other infamous crime or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude. polygamists. and also all persons whose tickets or passage are paid for with the money of another orwho areassisted by others to come. unless it is affirmatively and satisfactorily shown on special inquiry that such persons do not belong to one of the foregoing excluded classes. or to the class of contract laborers excluded by the act of February 26. 185.
