I think the questionmight apply quite as well to the verification of registration as to the verification of the fact of due and regular naturalization. So I can sayto my friend that we have apractical answer in the case which I have already referred to. which I read at length. as occurring in New York. a little drama before the commissioner. October 25. 1872. in which a citizen was broughtbefore the commissioner. aferbhaving been keptinjail for six or seven days. I think. for refusing to answer a question as to how old he was. threatening to eject from his house the man who was in his parlor and who persisted in his right to have an answer to that question.
