The law before us now will be evaded from one end of this country to the other. So far as I am informed. and I think gentlemen who will inquire into it will learn that I am rightly informed. there is a demand for just this kind of legislation. It is not inimical to aliens. it is not inimical to naturalization. it is not inimical to immigration. but simply provides for a sufficient protection against an evil so great that for session after session and year after year since the first contractlabor law was passed. it has agitated Congress and has held the attention of the American people.
