The report of the governorof Utah for 1889 shows thatthe population of Ogden in 1880 was 6.09. that in 1889 the population was 15.000. showing an increase of nearly 300 per cent. in ten years. and the population is steadily and rapidly increasing. The governors report also shows that the property assessment of Ogden for 1889 was $7.000.000. that the indebtness of the city was $100.000 only. that there were in the city three national banks. with a capital of SM0.000and deposits of $1.321.00. Speaking of the business prosperity of the Territory. the governor. after reciting that an immense immigration has been flowing into Ogden. says: " The people of this rapidly growing city are active. persevering. and industrious. and deserve the success which has come to them." Ogden is a railroad center. and to and through the city there is an immense traffic and travel. It is a distributing point for the United States mails and for Army stores and supplies. The city is the central point of five trunk lines of railroad and there are always a great number of transient visitors in the city. as well as the cmployds of the railroad companies. and the erection and maintenance of a city hospital is indispensable.
