During the past year a new line of railway has been surveyed and work is expected to commence in the spring of 1890 on a line that will bring Houlton nearly 100 miles nearer the Boston market. The opening of this road will undoubtedly add great impetus to the growth of the district In population and business. The county isas large as Massachusetts. containing the finest farming and timber lands in the State. and it is filling with immigration from Canada and other places. From the geographical position Houlton is a most important point on our frontier revenue service. and must constantly become more so. The need of suitable and permanent accommodations for the customhouse and postoffice is strongly urged and apparent.
