Gentlemen forget that the marvelous growth of this country is such as to tax all its own marvelous powers. Seek a foreign market. sir! We shall bring into this country in this decade by the natural increase and by immigration a body of people equal in numbers to the whole of Spain. Sixteen or seventeen millions of people are coming here. being born here. to grow up here and have homes. Their houses are tohe built. theirfurniture is to be built. the iron ware is to be furnished. their farming implements. their fences are to be put down. their churches and their schoolhouses are to be built. and their clothing is to be made. and all this is to be done for sixteen new millions of people between 1880 and 1890. and in the next decade it will be done for 18.000.000 of people.
