I made that statement in reply to the Senator from Nevada . I find from this letter (I have not examined the official record. but I shall offer that also) that these natnralizaiions took place in 1880 and 1881. I will read what my informant says. who is a private gentleman of absolute verity within my peirsonal knowledge. and for whose statement I am responsible. lie says: In 181. when General Harrison was elected to the United States Senate. Mr. Vincent Carter. a lawyer. was a Republican candidate for the Legislature. and lie was mainly instrumental in having seven Chinainen naturalized in the city of Indianapolis.
