When the proposition to naturalize Chinese was before the Senate the Republicans alone made a showing against it. and it was defeated by Republican votes. When Chinese immigration became oppressive it was the Republican party that moved in the matter. I admit that the Democratic party in pursuance of its traditions has voted against the Chinese. They did so for political purposes.
