Senator. farmer. knighterrant. and general Born at Dungannon. county Tyrone. Ireland. in 1810. he emigrated to the United States in 1826. and died at Ottumwa. Iowa. in 1879thus adding another to the innumerable illustrations of the fine observation of Chateaubriand. that no one knows what corner of the earth will receive his ashes. These sixtynine years of life were remarkably interspersed with change. Leaving his Irish home at sixteen. he presently appears as a lawyer at Kaskaskia. in the then Far West.
