Speakr. there is so ething here which to my mind is passing strange. an which I can flot reconcile with the fact that Mr. White was natulhlied in 1865. When addressing a multitude of people when this was te sole questioi1 agitating the public mind. and he stated to those peopl he had thos papers then. why is it he never once alluded in any of thoh public ad( resses to the fact that he was naturalized in 1865? Now. what was to be done in th t crisis? It was concluded in consultation with able counsel that be hould take out papers in Warsaw. and then on the Monday prior to t c election of Tuesday he went to Warsaw. Kosciusko County. and too out naturalization papers there. A great many of his friends assu ed. and the testimony discloses that fhat. that he became a citizen f in having been a discharged Federal soldier. under the doctrine aneunced in the letter called the McKeever letter. written by the Ass ant AdjutantGeneral of the United States. in 1882. to General John A. Logan. in responsetoa letter written by a Mr.
