Speech #490043598

Mr. President. why this continued misrepresentation by the Eastern press. by Eastern associations. by Eastern men. statesmen and others. of the true status of the Chinese question upon the Pacific coast.? Why in the face of overwhelming testimony to the contrary must it continually. and until the statement becomes stale by reason of its iteration. be asserted that the only persons opposed to further Chinese immigration in the Pacific Statbs and Territories are the sandlot and hoodlum element. the iiresponsible and criminal classes? Is it because of a willful desire on the part of Eastern men. and of the Eastern press. and of Eastern associations to misrepresent the facts? Oris it rather because of the want of correct information in regard to a question so vital to the interests not only of the people of the Pacific coast but of this whole coantry?
