The day of uncertainty as to the future of this sectionif there ever was such a day in its historyis past. the country has become known and has been made so accessible that it will hereafter receive a fair share of the emigration from the older settled portions of the Union and from Europe. In the language of another: ThatNorthwest. therefore. so faroff till now. has become ournextdoor neighbor. and is as near to New York as Monday is to Friday. where were heard. mainly. only the dashings of her rivers in the primeval stillness of her wilderness. are heard the puffing of steamers and whistle of locomotives. and clatter of mills and bustle of trade. and the glad sounds of farm life and the winsome musicof children. A very large majority of the people of Washington Territory desire the admission of the Territory as a State of the Union.
