I do not intend to do him any injstice and I hope I do not but Ithink I give substantially the idea which he presented at that time. Sow the Senator is very much alarmed. faring that ifthe billshould pass. preventing contract labor coming from abroad. the North will undertake to protect itself against the free colored labor of the South. I think the Senator is very much mistaken in that. If it comes freely from the South of its own accord to the North it -will undoubtedy be welcomed and -will receive such rate of wages as is commensurate with its value.
