I ask gentlemen to listen to me while I briefly state the case of Galveston. There is behind Galveston. which is the chief commercial city of Texas. a vast State. hand not only one State. but a number of States and Territories. But if we take the State -f Texas alonethere are within the borders of that State more than two millions ofpeople. and so great is the immigration which has poured and is now pouring into the State that within one single decade its representation in Congres increased nearly double. That State is today the leading cottongrowing State of the Union. It is today the leading cattlegrowing State of the Union.
