Protection is in the interest of the .rich and not the poor. The cheap talk about our trying to degrade American labor is all bosh. It is not true. The talk about our trying .to put American labor in competition with the pauper labor of Europe is all bosh. Foreign labor is not at all pauper labor. I have seen a .good deal of it. I have seen European laborers happy as lordsdancing. singing. drinking. smoking. and enjoying themselves more than most of our own laborers.
