The Secretaries of the interior heretofore have considered that these Indians had some sost *of title to this large body of land. The present Secretary of the Interior. on investigating the matter. came to the conclusion that they had no * such title. They were therefore sent over to join the Chippewas. and immigrants have come in at the rate of a thousand a week and taken possession of the land. and these poor Indians are without homes. They had supposed they had some title to this vast domain. The Secretary recommended that this sum should be expended in providing them permanent homes.
