I do not like to urge this measure against any other Senators proposition. but from day to day for weeks. as persistently as I might. I have asked the attention of the Senate to the bill. It is almost a reenactment of a law which now exists on our statutebooks. but which the courts of the United States have decided did not apply to steamvessels. but did apply to sailvessels only. I hope the Senate will. in the interest of the immigrants who are coming here and of the good of the United States. allow the bill to be read. and I think perhaps it can be passed without any great discussion and without - amendment. It is almost exactly like the law-
