United States Army. of February 25. 1882. that one regimentt of cavalry and one battalion of infantry wer raiscd in the late Territory of Novada duritg the late war of the rebellion. and that the epenses of raising. organizing. and placing in the field said forces were never paid by said Territy. bt were assumed and paid by the State of Nevada. ani that none of said expenses so incurred by said Territory. an assmed and paid by said State. have ever been reimbursedl the State of Nevada by the United States. asnd that no claims theefor have ever been heretofore presented by either said Territory or said State for andit and payment by the United States. Under section 3489 of tie Revised Statutes. hereinbefore referred to. the payment of tihse claims is barred by limitation. These forces were raised to gtard Cheiovorland tail route and emigrant road to California. east of Carson City. anti to do other military service in Nevada. and were called out by the governor of the late TeTitory of Nevada upon requisitions t:herefor by the commanding general of the Department of te Pacific. and arader authority of the War Departtsent. as appears by copies of official cotrespondence furnished to your committee by the Secretary of War and the general commandtg the Ditvision of the Pacific. and it further appears that there are some unadlsed claims of e State of Nevada tsr expenses growing out of the socalled White River Indian war of 1875. and aggregating 117.650.08. and of the socaled Elko Indian war of 1878 therein anti aggregating $4.554.04. tnd which sums. it appears by the official statements of the comptroller of said State of Nevada. were expended and paid out of the treasury of said State. TLXAS. The unadjusted claims of the State of Texas provided for by lis bill are those which accrued subsequent to October 14. 1865.
