The people of other States have had as difficult problems in their hands as we of California have in regard to the Chinese question. A number of these Chinese were induced to find their way over to New England. they being favorite citizens there. A number of them voted for my distinguished friend from Connecticut as a member of Congress. and he says that they naturalize them in Connecticut. They naturalize them in Massachusetts. as my honorable friend has said in a debate heretofore carried on upon this subject. A number of them wern takedi to a place called North Adams for the purpose of engaging.in the manufacture of shoes. I asked my friend how it happened that those people did not reirain in Massachusetts. did not remain in North Adams and carry on the manufacture of shoes in that city or town ?
