I can see no reason or necessity for such ironclad proceedings. Why should the friends of this veto6ed bill have the door slammed in their faces in this arbitrary way ? We want no debate. We want the earliest. the promptest action that will put an end to Chinese immigration. We ask simply that we may have a vote. without debate and without delay. upon another bill which we think will better secure that result and give substantial relief to the people of the Pacific slope. Is not our request "reasonable?" Is itnot "reasonable." even according to the latest and most extreme definition of the word?
