My colleague puts it thus: 1 appreend there is good ground for fears of such an influx from China to this country as to crowd out those who now live in end inhabit parts of this Republic. and which furnishes one reason. and a strong one to my mind. why some restrie. lions solnd be placed on this immigration. Can it be that any person regards the present or the future endgration fiol the Celestial Empire occasion for alarm ? We all know that China has a reputed population of from 300.000.000 to 400.000.000. and that these people may reach our shores in thirty days. brt we know also that the Chinese have come to us and gone from us at their will for thirty years. and that today there are not more than 100.000 on the whole Pacific side of the Rocky Mountains.
