Let me get an answer to the question how many have been so naturalized? I never heard of but one man. and he was a graduate of Yale College. who I understood was naturalized. I heard so. probably on the ground that he was nearer white than black. he probably had some of our boasted Caucasian blood in his veins. as there are many people of Caucasian blood in China nearer white than black. Under the decisions of the courts of Ohio. and perhaps of other States. such a man would come within the definition of a white man as distinguished from a man of another race.
