The ovidnce taken by the committee was not printed so that I was able to obtain a copy of it until the day before yesterday. and I have nut had an opportunity to read it. There is one point however. to which I do wish to refer at th tme. s I think it illustrates very fully the character of this whole investigation. and of this very labored and elaborate effort to which wo have just listened. The committee made a desperate effort to convict the republican State central committee of Indiana of havinginducedth emigration to go into that State for political purposes. and the Senator from Indiana hastoday occupied nearly half an hoar an trysngto prove that fact. and particularly the fact that said committee had sent a certain large sum of money. amounting to $600. to the agent of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in this city to paythe transportation of colored emigrants to tIndiana. I was not willing to believe that the honorable Senator wished to state what was not true. I know be did not intend to do so.
