Speech #460045196

President. that not as a party neasure. but as a measure of justice and humanity. I offer this resolution to have a little investigation. If I were actuated by purely political motives I would welcome this negro emigration. If I desired simply the success of the democratic party in Isdiana. I would say to the agents of this movement. "put in a few thousand." and for every one thousand black men you put in there between now and next Maywhich I believe is the limit. for from May to November is six months. and that is the length of residence that gives a man a right to vote in our State-" we shall gain five thousand votes." I would say. "Bring them on." and the reaction will take care of all political consequences.
