Mr. President. the desire of Louisiana is for peace. Tho anxiety of her people is for immigration. Send us a million of white people. we care not from where they come. We will take them all from New England. they all may be republicans. and Ave will welcome them with open arms. Not only will their emigration give some chance to the honest democracy of the States fron which they come to redeem their States. but the benign and softening influence of our climate. soil. and institutions will soften the asperities born of contact with Plymouth Rock and the granite hills of Now England and render them moderate. consersative. and tolerant in their political views. But little care we what may be the political views of emigrants comiug to Louisiana provided they bring that energy. that intelligence. and that labor and that capital which is needed to develop the magnificent natural resources of our State and cause her. in the fulfillnent of her destiny. to become the gardenspot of the world.
